Seattle will host “Two Voices, One Heritage,” a concert celebrating the musical traditions of Türkiye and Azerbaijan, on Oct. 17 at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute.

Azerbaijani vocalist Sonay Ruhi will headline the evening with Rain City Muğam, a Seattle-based group formed in early 2026 by local music enthusiasts brought together by their shared love of Azerbaijani culture. The group began rehearsing to represent Azerbaijan at Northwest Folklife and will bring its interpretation of traditional Azerbaijani music to the concert stage.

Ruhi has devoted much of her life to Azerbaijani music. Her professional journey began in Tabriz 21 years ago, followed by vocal studies in Baku and six years performing with the Anadolu University Folk Studies Research Center in Türkiye. She has performed Azerbaijani songs throughout her career and views music as a way to share the cultural heritage of her homeland with wider audiences.

The program will also feature Turkish musician Uğur Önür, who will perform folk songs from Anatolia. Together, the artists will bring two musical traditions to the Seattle stage in an evening centered on cultural connection and heritage.
