A new online project is aiming to make it easier for Tatars around the world to find, share and preserve information about Sabantuy, the traditional Tatar summer festival.

Sabantuy Club [https://sabantuy.club/] was created by Ildar Gumerov, a Tatar community member who moved to the United States in 2014 and found that information about local celebrations was often difficult to locate. Announcements were scattered across social media, group chats, old flyers and word of mouth, sometimes making it difficult to learn about an event before it had taken place.

The new website, Sabantuy Club, seeks to bring that information together in one searchable catalog. Users can find upcoming celebrations, review dates and locations, follow links to original sources and explore records from previous years.

The project’s founder hopes the site will eventually become a comprehensive global database of Sabantuy celebrations while also serving as an archive for future generations. The initial catalog contains sourced events, but the project is designed to grow through community contributions.

Organizers and community members are encouraged to submit information about missing events, including social media posts, flyers, dates, locations, organizer details, photographs and historical materials. Users can also report errors so listings can be reviewed and updated.

The site is currently available in English, with plans to add Tatar and Russian. Future features may include profiles for communities and organizers, event updates, and an expanded archive of stories and photographs.

For now, the project’s founder says the most valuable way to support Sabantuy Club is to contribute information about local celebrations and share the resource with organizers and people who know the history of Sabantuy in their communities.
