On June 6, 2025, Bob Ferguson, Governor of Washington State issued an official proclamation declaring June 8, 2025, as Sabantuy, a traditional holiday celebrated by Turkic peoples across the world.

Sabantuy, meaning “plow festival” in Tatar, is a celebration of the end of the spring sowing season and is marked by music, dance, sporting competitions, and communal gatherings. The holiday is observed by numerous ethnic groups, including Tatars, Bashkirs, Chuvash, Kazakhs, and other Turkic peoples, each bringing their own unique customs and festive traditions to the event.

Governor’s proclamation reflects the region’s growing cultural diversity and its support for honoring global heritage. In recognizing Sabantuy, the city acknowledges the contributions of Turkic communities to the cultural fabric of Washington State and invites residents of all backgrounds to celebrate this vibrant holiday.
